XGLab offers its customers complete radiation detector systems equipped with Silicon Drift Detectors. XGLab also offers highly customized design work of these complete detectors and measurement systems (comprised of a SDD detector, the related front-end electronics, and the software), suitable for scientific, biomedical, industrial and civil applications.
XGLab’s R&D Group also designs and develops complete detectors and measurement systems based on SDD for use in the environmental, health and conservation fields.
XGLab’s Research Group fuses different skills to achieve unique results, from design savvy to the use of sophisticated semiconductor detectors, to the expertise in the development of low noise analog electronics for the readout of detectors, to mastering the techniques needed for filtering signals and the development of complete measuring devices.
XGLab troubleshoots any issues relative to the use and the design of a system based on SDD while providing its customers with the best equipment available today.
XGLab’s knowledge and experience allows them to not only propose a technologically advanced device, but also offer its customers a product customization based specifically on the particular needs of the end user.
XGLab’s scope of services span custom design of the entire detection system and production of the developed instrumentation, as well as its installation when needed.
INSTRUMENTATION FOR REASEARCH INSTITUTIONS
XGlab is very used to cooperate with research institutions to develop vanguard detection systems, from the detector to the software. For example synchrotrons often need very sophisticated and high performance detection systems in very hard environment (small room, vacuum, high disturbs and so on).
We have developed many systems for these kind of applications. Pictured here is an instrumentation installed in TwinMic beamline at Elettra Synchrotron in Trieste.

We can start with studying the problem providing customers with suggestions regarding the detection system, designing, producing and finishing with the installation.
MATERIALS ANALYSIS
XGLab and Politecnico joint activity also includes the characterization of materials by means of X-ray based techniques like X-ray Fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF). This technique is inherently non-destructive and non-invasive. It’s therefore well suited for application with materials and objects which, because of technical reasons or intrinsic value, cannot be modified or damaged.
Portable instrumentation has been developed and now it allows on-the-field analyses.
An important field of Laboratory activity concerns the analyses of the cultural heritage such as paintings, sculptures, jewels, archaeological finds, etc (a nice example is shown in the image below regarding Lombard buckles), on which elemental mapping instrumentation completely developed by our team is operated. Other fields of activity concern applications in biomedicine, geology, gold market and industrial technologies.
